Virtual Assistants and Online Business Managers: What's the difference?

Updated: May 27, 2020

An Online Business Manager can seem very similar to a Virtual Assistant, and no doubt there can be some overlap! It is important to learn the distinct differences between the two so you can hire the type of help that best supports your business.

A Virtual Assistant:

  • Works as an “employee”

  • Receives and completes tasks

  • Needs direction and management

  • Basic to intermediate skill levels and experience

  • Implements your strategy

  • $ - $$

You should hire a Virtual Assistant when you feel confident in your business and have systems in place. A Virtual Assistant is perfect when you know exactly what needs to be delegated and you have the resources to train someone.

An Online Business Manager:

  • Works as your “partner”

  • Helps create and prioritize tasks

  • Can manage projects and teams for you

  • Very high skill levels and experience

  • Helps create your strategy

  • $$$

You should hire an Online Business manager if you feel ready to scale but too overwhelmed to do so. An OBM will help you create strategies and implement those high level tasks that aren’t a good use of your time.
