ignore all the tech noise

I used to be a minimalist (or, as I prefer, an Essentialist) back when I had my Professional Organizing business.

And it wasn't just about stuff - it was a way of life that I still follow.

My possessions, my calendar, my newsletter subscriptions -

It should all be shallow by default and complex by choice.

(one of my favorite phrases from Lex Roman)

This is my philosophy when it comes to systems, too.

Whenever I'm mapping out a process with a client and it feels confusing or clunky or overwhelming or unclear -

I pause.

Look up (this is my thinking pose).

Clear my mind.

Take a deep breath.

And think.

(Yes, I do this on the call with clients)

And I think to myself... "What is the simplest way to achieve our goal here????"

There is ALWAYS a simpler way,

beyond the clutter of tech and opinions,

or how other people say you should run your business.

We always connect back to the goal.

What is the goal of this workflow in the process?

Often, our processes are far more complicated than they need to be.

This happens when we align our process with what a tool is telling us to do, or what some business coach in a group program recommended, or what someone in our Slack community was trying.

Or maybe you have been tweaking pieces of your process, all zoomed in, slowly over time.

And you haven't taken a moment to zoom back out and ask yourself what the overall goal even is?

When I was a professional organizer, we always started by taking every single thing out of the space - out of the drawers, from the shelf, off the top.

And we would lay it all out and ask: What is this space meant for?

From there, we could look at each item and determine: Is this something we want? Need? Does it belong somewhere else?

When we map out your offer's process, we take the Frankenstein process you have in your head, lay it all out for us to see, and do the same.

What is this step in your process meant for? What is the goal?

Maybe it's: "get the information I need to kick off the project with the least amount of effort."

Or maybe it's "have an overview of all of the progress made on our client work, in a tidy dashboard, that the client can check anytime."

Or even as simple as "remind my client of assets I need from them each month, without having to keep track in my head."

When you zoom out and see your process for what it really is, that’s when the magic happens. Suddenly, the clutter falls away and the simplest, most effective version of your offer's promise becomes obvious.

That’s exactly what happens in a Process Mapping Session.
