3 elements of businesses that are ALWAYS booked
I don't spend money on many things.
My student loans are paid off (#blessed).
I sold my car and now walk, bike, or bus everywhere.
My clothes are second-hand.
My skincare routine is as basic as they come.
I don't have kids or pets or even plants anymore.
But I do love to eat out.
Not DoorDash or the drive-through.
I want to go OUT to eat 💅🏻
I love the whole experience of a nice restaurant, and baby, I pay for it.
I keep Google Maps lists for every city I visit, with all the best places to eat saved.
(Portland, Orlando, New York City are my biggest lists - DM me if you need recommendations 😘)
Here are the THREE ELEMENTS of restaurants that are ALWAYS booked-and-busy, that can be applied to our own businesses as service providers:
1️⃣ The Dishes (aka, Your Talents & Skills)
I can cook OK at home. So when I’m going out to eat, I need to visit heaven with every bite. I want to taste that the head chef studied in Italy or France, or whatever. I want to experience flavor combinations and cooking methods my tiny brain could never fathom.
In your business, your skills and talents are the meals. This is the main reason someone is giving you their monies.
Maybe you have a background in corporate.
Maybe you spent years at an agency and then went off on your own.
Maybe you had a business before and are using transferable skills.
Maybe you are constantly upskilling, learning the latest trends and developments in your industry.
No matter what, you need to be good at what you do, as this is the core of what people are buying.
2️⃣ The Ambiance (aka your Brand!)
I want fun decor. A cohesive theme. Lighting. Music. A unique bathroom disco ball experience. I want a vision. It doesn’t have to be fancy (I love a dive bar), but I need to have an experience, okay?! I need to feel something.
Your brand (the ambiance of your business) is how clients trust you and really feel what you are delivering to them.
Are your forms branded? What is your communication style like? Is the client experience consistent? Do you surprise and delight throughout? Every touchpoint shapes the experience.
3️⃣ The Service (aka The Systems)
After years in the service industry, I know exactly how quickly the little things can go wrong.
Did the host dump too many tables on one server? Did the manager underschedule on a Friday night? Is the food timed so it all lands on the table together? Are food runners getting dishes out hot instead of letting them sit under a heat lamp? Are tables being cleared fast enough to turn them over? And is my water being refilled? (I drink a lot of water.)
Proper systems ensure your offer (the MEAL) actually gets delivered the way it’s supposed to.
You can have the best recipes and the most talented chefs, but if one system slips, the whole operation wobbles.
Does your service feel clunky to deliver? Process mapping is the first step to changing that.
