I'm burning it all down 🔥 PART 3: How To Build
Fun fact: I went to art school for 8 years straight.
The first 4 years? A charter high school that I had to audition for.
The last 4? Art college, where—plot twist—I ended up getting a business degree (but that’s a story for another day).
During those years, painting was my medium of choice.
I loved carefully setting up my painting space to prepare (aka, gathering supporting materials):
Paints? Check. Canvas? Check. Easel (aka, a plastic chair on which I leaned my canvas while I sat on the floor)? Check.
Clean brushes, paint palette, paint rag, paint clothes, paint water jar, drinking water jar (DO NOT confuse the two), reference photos, and my iPod with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance queued up.
Check check check check check.
Then - I was ready to lock into The Zone—focused, inspired, and in the flow.
Some people in my industry (aka Systems & Operations) stick to strategy and hand things off, and hey, I get it. But that’s just not me.
I need to do both!
I’m a builder. A creator. A maker.
And I’m damn good at it.
Though I don’t paint much anymore, I find the same creative energy in the backend of your Airtable, ClickUp, or Zapier setup. It's my new canvas.
Right now, I’m refining my offer to do what I do best for you: design and build custom systems that support your client journey.
And to do that, I’m rebuilding all the systems that power my business, too—and you’re coming along for the ride.
Last week, I shared my new version of "setting up my art space": Collecting Supporting Materials.
Now, onto Step 3: BUILDING—where the magic happens.
Here’s what building entails:
🧱𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 – Making sure everything’s in place, from new forms to package setups.
🚉 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 – I ensure all the necessary tools are in place, from Airtable to ClickUp, Zapier, Dubsado, and more. Each platform is carefully configured to align with the workflow.
🤖𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 am – Step by step, I build out each part of the client journey. Some automations are quick, while others take a whole morning of trial and error (and maybe a little coding).
🧪𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 – I run through everything as both the client and the team. This phase is critical—I always find something to tweak.
📚𝗦𝗢𝗣 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽 – Once the system’s built, I ensure your team has everything they need to run it. I document all processes and link SOPs directly to the related tasks so they’re always accessible when needed.
