The first time I hopped on the back of a motorbike taxi here in Vietnam, my brain short-circuited.
How do I hold on without flying off? 😬
How do I keep my skirt from flying up and flashing half the street? 😬
Where do my long legs go so I’m not basically spooning a stranger I met five seconds ago? 😬😬
There were so many questions that I spent the entire ride gripping the back handles for dear life, distracted by more and more unknowns.
Fast forward a few weeks and… baby I’m a motorbike (passenger) P-R-O-F-E-S-S-I-O-N-A-L.
👉Nothing about the ride changed. The system did.👈
The driver pulls up and we confirm he is my ride.
He hands me a helmet to wear.
I check that the foot holders are down while I buckle my helmet and put my phone away.
I hop on and place my purse on my lap - to create a gentle barrier between my front and his back, AND to hold my skirt down
I gently squeeze my ankles against the bike, so I can grip without my inner thighs rubbing all over this stranger's butt.
Which leaves my hands free to rest of my knees, holding down the edges of my skirt.
NOW I can just enjoy the sun on my face, wind in my hair, and the sights and sounds of Ho Chi Minh City.
I can relax, meditate, or even text!
