Things I believe because I run my own business

Last year's election has caused us all to tune into the news like never before.

And it's tough to keep up with - because sometimes it seems like we are waking up to a fresh hell every day ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ and then we have to like, just go to work????????

The LGBTQ+ community is under attack. Education is losing its funding. Important resources and safety nets are being stripped away from vulnerable populations.

The tech industry (where my husband has worked for many years) ain't doin' so hot.

So I'm always looking for a few things to keep my spirits up.

Take a walk with me:

Thing-number-one-that-keeps-me-going: something's gotta give

The powers that be are doing their best to pay everyone less and charge us more, which means the whole system will eventually collapse on itself. We can't buy stuff with money we don't have.

Maybe that's naive, but I am choosing to believe that the big structures can't continue chugging along this way. It has to topple.

This means that power will slowly funnel back to us.

As more and more of my friends find themselves laid off (or nervous about being laid off), our community grows closer.

We are leaning on each other, and our community grows stronger.

This also means that small businesses (that's you and me!!!) will be more important than big ones. We are sustainable when they are not.

Which leads me to:

Thing-number-two-that-keeps-me-going:

how can we offset the chaos?

ANSWER: Running a healthy and thriving small business.

Take another walk with me...

Here are a few things I believe because I run my own business:

ONE: Even during the months when I make a total of $100 dollars, I can never be fired or laid off. I will always have a job as long as I want one.

TWO: My family will have resources even when my husband struggles to find consistent contracts in the tech industry.

Making more money to support two people instead of one has been a big shift I have had to work through.

To be honest, it's a lot of pressure and I haven't quite figured it out all completely yet (hence Rob still taking on contract work when he can find it)

But the possibility is there, and it's something I am working hard towards.

And because of point ONE (I will always have a job), point TWO is also possible (I will always have money for both Rob and me to live).

THREE (โ€ผ๏ธthis is a big oneโ€ผ๏ธ):

My talents around designing and building custom systems for other quickly growing businesses means that other small businesses will be healthy and thriving.

And those small businesses can help OTHER SMALL BUSINESSES TO GROW AND THRIVE!

AND THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE OF THE SILVER LINING THING FROM EARLIER!!!!!!

My business needs to thrive so that your business can also thrive, because your talents mean other people are also thriving.

And that is the community we are building.

That is the power we are making for ourselves.
